I suppose you could try:

1) copy to a DVD-R or CD-R
2) read the copy in 1 yr and make a copy of that
3) read the 1st one in another year - if it works OK, no nead to make a copy
again
4) read the 1st one in yet another year - ditto (3)
Keep on going on that basis,  with a new copy every few years.
After a suificient length of time you will have a pretty good idea how long they
last !!!

Sounds wasteful,  but DVD-R are only about 20p now and CD-Rs even cheaper  !!
Obviously, if you have large amounts of data to archive, the 'big disc' solution
is probably better.   AFAIK  very large capacity ong-term data storage systems
ain't cheap  !!
