[Gllug] Anyone having broadband (probably PlusNet) problems today?

A possibility, although I don't know if the ISPs PPP stuff would allow
you to negotiate any address but the one you are assigned - I doubt it,
somehow.

Yes, this is an option, although there seem to exist no such devices
with open source drivers. I think the Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem has
open source drivers, although I don't know how good they are, or how
good the hardware is.

I'm waiting to get a bigger case for my firewall so I can fit a PCI
modem in it (Aria - http://www.aria.co.uk/ were selling PCI DSL modems
for £8 or so recently. When I bought one, it was based on the unicorn
chipset, and produced by Bewan). Currently, it will only accomodate
half-height PCI cards.

The binary drivers apparently work fine, and seem to be both stable and
kept in tune with current kernel releases, but it's still a binary
module, which is still icky and nasty.
