   The usual problem is that however carefully you design the layout there
are never enough sockets in the right places. Cat5 is probably easier, Cat6
perhaps better, but I suppose that you may need to use fibre to make it
reasonably future proof.
   Mains wiring is normally run in rings, and if necessary a ring can be
stretched to add an extra outlet. Fibre rings could be laid to match, and
extended in a similar way. It might be much more expensive to set up, but
should carry enough data for the next month or so.
