[Gllug] 3Ware SATA controllers

Anyone else on GLLUG running 3Ware SATA RAID controllers
under a 2.4 kernel?
Specifically an  8506-4LP model, but any other 8000 series counts.

I'm getting dog slow performance when doing multiple simultaneous writes
to it (4 disks in RAID 5) via NFS mounts.
System is running RH 7.3 - applications driven.

I have done much tuning with sysctl and elvtune, and have tried a
vanilla 2.4.30 kernel. Rapidly running out of hair to pull out.
