I must admit to selecting RTAI (www.rtai.org) after reading about their
use of it to control the maglev bearings for multi-ton turbines.

I figured if they trusted it enough to stay in the building, it would be
good enough for us.

Though, to be fair, we use both 8-bitters (PICs with CAN-onboard) and
mini-ITX stuff.
