Not necessarily. Its sole purpose was to save memory, back in ye olden
days. That's no longer a major concern (at least for the class of apps
that inetd typically handles), and you might as well just leave the
required services up and running rather than have inetd start them.
Naturally there are exceptions. But the case for inetd isn't as strong
as it once was.
