Hmmmmmm.....
Granted, I'm sure that your family will have applications that are
windows-only.

But I'd imagine GLLUG (or Google) can come up with a Gnome or KDE theme
which is sufficiently windows-like as to fool a casual inspection.
Add in Open Office and Evolution.
