Well, some of his early short stories are winceworthy, and the ending
of _The Witling_ had me throwing the book across the room.

But absolutely everything he wrote from _The Peace War_ on is good;
everything from _Marooned in Realtime_ onwards is absolutely excellent.

Vinge seems to be suffering from a sort of inverse of the Brain Eater
that took Heinlein, Tepper and many other authors: his writing gets
better and better with time. (If it's exponential we can soon expect a
Fiction Singularity, as long as one assumes that growth curves never
saturate. ;} )
