[Gllug] direct io and async io on Openfiler NFS

My head's full. I've googled, and googled, and read how-tos and
bugzillas, and now it's all blurred into a mess.

Can anyone tell me if I can simultaneously use direct IO and
asynchronous IO between an Openfiler NFS server and a SUSE EL9.2 client
(as you might use in a no-cost Oracle 10g cluster). Assuming it's
possible, what combination of export and mount options will do the trick?

I don't think I can boil this down further, nor add much more context
beyond the Oracle 10g bit. I can see that there appears to be an open
bug against RHEL (
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=161362 unless I'm
misreading bugzilla) on this very topic. Simultaneously, I see NetApp
claiming support (and offering kernel patches) for this very issue. I
can't make sense of it any more. Can someone show me the way?

BTW, "no-cost" is really exactly that. I have a moderate inventory of
desktop PCs to cannibalise, that's it.

Thanks for your help,

Richard
