I have it on good authority that no crayons were involved, nor
chalkboards, and the thing about the anaesthetised sheep, wooden mallet
and iron filings is a complete fabrication.

`If you can't be nice, be quiet'. The point of posting is helpfulness,
not showing off (and I know it's a bit of a stretch for me of all people
to say that, but I do *try* to keep my native arrogance in check).
(I also try to say nothing if someone else has already said what I was
going to say, but this seems to be a vanishingly rare tactic.)
Now it's time for me to retreat into my shell and stop posting for a
week or so in the hope that my absence will calm things down a bit and
stop driving new members off. This isn't not normally a blood-pressure-
raising list, and I'd be glad to see it getting back to its normal self;
with nothing but the occasional wildly off-topic thread to disturb its
placid calm, er, no, sorry, I can't lie *that* blatantly without
laughing. ;}

`"Gun-wielding recluse gunned down by local police" isn't the epitaph
I want. I am hoping for "Witnesses reported the sound up to two hundred
kilometers away" or "Last body part finally located".' --- James Nicoll
