and had 100,000 users or thereabouts.  Each user had their own
"database" (I use the term advisedly - a username.nsf file, anyway).
Making even minor changes to the application required each file to be
visited, which took a couple of weeks.

Luckily it was our job to migrate the system over to using a proper
SQL database and a Perl-based frontend web application.
