OO.o spends upwards of 99.99% of its run time _waiting for the user to 
do something_.  If you are genuinely seeing an apparent speedup after 
machine-specific compilation then it's because your machine was actually 
doing  _something else_ that you weren't aware of.  In your case it's 
probably compiling something in the background, that seems to be the 
favourite hobby of gentoo users.
