This mis-understanding exists not just with software licencing. I 
recently published a case study of how we used FOSS here. I published it 
under a Creative Commons attrib-no-derivs licence. Somebody wanted to 
use it on their site and phoned me to ask if they could adapt/summarise 
it (apparently mine was too long). They said they were phoning to ask 
because I had "quite restrictive copyright" on it.

I pointed out that the CC licence was less restrictive than copyright 
and asked them to send me their proposed adaptations which I would then 
review. To this they said "oh - is *that* it?" :o)
