   Slightly grubby unpainted wood is usually slightly conducting, does not
generate static, and is usually OK. If you are in an environment heated by
large amounts of equipment, the air is probably very dry giving ideal
conditions for generating static. Anti-static wrist straps could be anything
from a piece of wire to a high but finite resistance; something like a 100K
resistor can quickly discharge static without the risk of killing you if you
touch live mains.
