I agree! If you have some exec who doesn't understand computers that
well never mind linux / OSS who has several grand to spend why should
they push the risk / responsibility back to their door when it all goes
tits-up? Why not pay the several grand they have been told they can use
and then if it goes wrong they can deflect to the vendor. You can see
why they would want to do that rather than get sacked for a maverick
solution.

On a side note, can I just urge you not to use redhat's satellite. I
know redhat have done good stuff for linux, but they really dropped the
ball with this one. It's poor with no permissioning structure and an API
that shows how much of a mess the internals must be. Plus it's just a
gui that makes it inconvenient to update your kickstart files. This is
just IMHO!
