You may be right, but anybody going down that path with production
systems had better have a well-documented build system and a policy on
stocking or sourcing replacement hardware that has been properly
considered and is actively enforced.  If not, the person who has to
maintain those systems after you leave (or go under a bus) is going hate
you.
