I've done a bit of video editing. My system is an Athlon 900Mhz with 512M 
RAM. It had no trouble handling the job. The difference a better system 
makes is when you are running the rendering the final product but that's a 
batch job so it can be left to run overnight if necessary (my project took 
about 11 hours to render but that was a 70 minute film).
