w.r.t MySQL support - depending on the sort of app you are looking to
deploy, I've often found community support to be far superior to what
you get out of MySQL.

</opinion based on a few incidents in 2004 - 2005, where my employer did
have support contracts with mysql, and in most cases, i was able to
resolve issues faster, either working inhouse or with community aid,
than what mysql was able to help with>
