Hmmm, I have: had a couple of disks go fut; a scsi disk controller die
slowly (giving it plenty of opportunity to write an occasional block of
cr*p - which is why several generations of backup are useful); a PSU
age which caused tiny disk corruptions[*] when the tape backup started ...
Do NOT assume that hardware does not fail; also do NOT assume that you
will notice a failure quickly.
[*] Reiser file system a few years back - most curious, lots of files
'shifted one byte on' ie a garbage byte at the start of the file &
the last byte missing.
