Ebuyer have a notebook that comes with linux preinstalled (Linspire I
think?): ESys E320 Via 1.2GHz 256MB 40GB CD-RW/DVD
it's on clearance at the moment for £270 (quickfind code: 103124)
Also novatech and eclipse have some notebooks that come without an OS

I've been looking around a bit myself lately and as far as I can tell
Asus are good value and build quality but I haven't seen any that come
without Windows preinstalled. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a
significant price difference between getting the bundled software or
not, or for that matter getting the "free upgrade to vista" that many
are touting.
http://shoplaptop.co.uk/ seems to have pretty good deals.
I'd be interested to know how you get on, as I'm in the same boat.

Good luck,
Cillian
