Hello,
I have just seen a log from my IPCop firewall covering the interface that
connects to my ADSL modem that shows TX packets just under half of the RX
packets, but TX bytes nearly five times the RX bytes.

eth2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
          inet addr:192.168.1.2 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:96315557 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:54646909 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:881505797 (840.6 MB) TX bytes:4218403628 (4022.9 MB)

The local network interface looks much more reasonable, (it connects to a
busy multi-way hub, not a switch).

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
          inet addr:192.168.2.1 Bcast:172.21.3.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:55461808 errors:2 dropped:142 overruns:0 frame:1
          TX packets:95885334 errors:730610 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:730610
          collisions:4363820 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:4289333295 (4090.6 MB) TX bytes:115225054 (109.8 MB)

   I am puzzled.

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
          RX packets:41139 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:41139 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:4005601 (3.8 MB) TX bytes:4005601 (3.8 MB)
