On some Thinkpads you can put a battery into the ultrabay slot (where
the CD drive goes) which will give you some extra battery capacity
(probably about 2 hours). If you got one of these you could probably 
swap out the main battery while running off the ultrabay battery to put
in a new one without shutting the machine down or hibernating it.
