I went a stage further than that with my brother's machine - Windows 2000 was 
replaced with Mandriva running a carefully-skinned KDE.  His kids didn't 
realise it wasn't Windows until they tried downloading some "instant message 
toolbar" for Internet Explorer!  They now use Linux exclusively, as their 
school (in Madrid) made the move last year, and are probably more adept than 
I am.
