It's interesting to note that the article linked to provides no evidence
of the ISPs handing over details nor does it suggest anything in the
legal firm's letters do so (just that they claim the ISPs have done so).
When I read it I smelled scam (in regard to the letters) and
sensationalism (in regard to the article).

my experience is a great deal lesser than yours but I would agree with
your suggestion.
