Yes and no. They didn't want people to be able to walk in and out 
without having an access number generated for each visit (which is a 
little annoying unless you have access to their portal). The other 
reason was because the staff (apparently) couldn't keep up with people 
who were no longer customers - I thought it was more secure as they 
stored your photo too... go figure.

There was random rumor's floating around a year or so ago regarding 
Telehouse (East) and something like that. At that time they started 
randomly searching people more often - they still do it now just not as 
often.

Not going to stop people if they wanted to though. Just a shame that so 
much of the UK's net traffic goes through that small area....
