I've been away for a few days and so I don't know if this discussion is
still current. But, yes, I can supply academic references to back this
up - in fact the wealthiest 10% in the UK spend 30 times more on petrol
than the poorest 10% and similar figures, though obviously not so
extreme, apply to upper and lower quartiles.
