There is another reason many bosses are against random installation of 
unknown software - the bosses job is to manage the company or part of it 
and a vital part of that is change control.

Having people make changes without authorisation can result in systems 
that are unusable by anyone but the specific individual who set it up - 
remember these are company property not personal and private property.
