Being picky, it's using ssh and sftp.

Which version on which distro? There should be no segfaulting from
nautilus when using gnome-vfs, obviously. I used the smb/cifs and ssh
support extensively on Ubuntu Dapper in my previous job - occasionally
the smb bit would forget my credentials and have to log me back in, but
there was no regular segfaulting.

Perhaps an upgrade is in order? If not, file a bug!
