Is she able to view and connect to other loal machines without problem -
at the very least to ping them without packet loss?

If so is she able to ping sites on the internet and reliable traceroute
through to them?

If she cannot reliable connect to other local machines she needs to verify
her wireless setup and consider whether there might be interference from
other wireless networks or sources of electrical interference.

If she can see the local network and reliably connect to the router she
should check that the NTL modem or STB is not overheating (is this problem
affecting others users of the ntl connection?). If that's not the problem
a call to NTL might be in order however she'll have to be prepared to deal
with their "If you are not running windows you should be policy" if she
doesn't get a clued up support person.
