Well, my current drives havnt failed, the main reasons for me upgrading are :-

* array is full
* machine chassis is full
* pata channels are full
* psu has no spare connectors
* it's running on a duron 800...

So I'm building (re-building) another machine that will hold the original array
and the new array using sata, I should be able to then migrate off the old from
the old array to the new, then when use up my pata channels again with some
bigger disks (if i can get them).

I like to have hardware raid at work, but for home, yes it's overkill :-)
