[Gllug] nfs, mozilla and file locking

Hi all,

I'm having a bit of trouble with unbelievably slow startup of firefox
and thunderbird. If I run them as root, they start quickly. However my
/home is mounted on a NFS volume on a different machine and If I try and
start them as a normal user the startup is painful (>1min). This all
used to be fine some months ago.

Unfortunately I didn't notice this for a while and have no idea what I
changed on my client and server that could have made this happen.
(Certainly no server exports or client fstab configuration). I am
running Gentoo (just for chuckles) on both boxes and a kernel > 2.6.17.

I did wonder if this was a file locking issue with NFS and firefox's
parent.lock file.

Has anyone seen this before?

All thoughts appreciated.

Nick
