Those were not the result of the Severn overflowing.

The 1953 floods were the result of high tide combined with storms in
the North Sea. It was coastal areas that were flooded, and not just in
East Anglia (and not "much of East Anglia", just the low-lying bits
around the coast). That's why the Thames Barrier was built.

They have little relevance to the present situation,
