Never used it, but the getmail documentation suggests you can change the
Maildir destination:

Alternatively, you could get mutt to look for your maildir in its alternative
location.

The following demonstrates for a fairly simple setup for mutt and maildirs, 
including a nifty find command for mutt to find your mailboxen once you've
created them and told getmail where to put them:
