Admittedly it's been a long time since I poked around with the rubbish
RedHat network config files, but why on earth should losing the physical
link cause an interface to lose its address?!
That implies something is bringing eth0 down and not restarting it
sanely, which also shouldn't happen. Even if eth0 grabs a new DHCP lease
it shouldn't be touching eth0:1.
