[Gllug] NFS problem

Hi,
I am trying to debug/fix an NFS problem.
The client is an oldish TRU64 unix box, the server a MS Windows 2000 advanced server.
The system is used for builds - lots of C++.
The cxx compiler occasionally blows up with:
cxx: Severe: Unable to compress file "./cxx_repository/tru64.g1.com.aokfBa":
Permission denied
cxx: Info: 1 catastrophic error detected in the compilation of "../../../doc1gensrc/igxmlscanner.cpp".
cxx: Info: Compilation terminated.
leave it a few minutes and it may work properly. It does seem to fail on some files a
lot 'in preference' to others.
It is the randomness that confuses me.
The NFS mount line is:
borg:/source /export/home/source nfs rw,soft,bg,intr 0 0
(Borg is the W2K server)
The MS nature of the file server isn't inherently the problem, there are quite a few
*nix (inc Linux) boxes that use it without issue. This problem first
arose a few weeks ago about the time when IP addresses of everything were changed,
but this may be a red herring.
Anyone got any pointers ... ?
TIA
