Interesting - you could test it with LVM fairly easily.

The second one gets mounted in that attempt, with no warning.

rw at pericles:~/Hand/Code/hand-ex-sdcc$ sudo e2label /dev/mapper/pericles-V1
VL
rw at pericles:~/Hand/Code/hand-ex-sdcc$ sudo e2label /dev/mapper/pericles-V2
VL
rw at pericles:~/Hand/Code/hand-ex-sdcc$ sudo umount /mnt/z
umount: /mnt/z: not mounted
rw at pericles:~/Hand/Code/hand-ex-sdcc$ sudo mount -L VL /mnt/z
rw at pericles:~/Hand/Code/hand-ex-sdcc$ df /mnt/z
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/pericles-V2
                         15863 140 14904 1% /mnt/z
rw at pericles:~/Hand/Code/hand-ex-sdcc$

That might qualify as a bug.
