There is a loss of quality every time the programme content is re-edited,
and it was not unusual for a programme to contain content recorded earlier
in the day that was already several generations old. There used to be very
little noticeable final loss of quality as long as no compression was used
until the programme reached the transmitter. Things may have changed, both
technical and programme quality are being reduced to cut costs.
