Quicktime tends to take a fairly straight-and-narrow approach to video  
formats, so it finds some combinations of audio and video unpalatable.  
Your choice of MPEG video and MP3 audio is certainly not widely used  
in consumer *video* standards.

I would try something other than MP3 for the audio track. If there's  
MPEG Audio, go for that. Be sure it's not using MPEG2 for the video  
(as others have noted it's generally distributed separately by apple,  
for extra money).
