Senior Systems Engineer
There is currently a vacancy in the Systems team for the position of
Senior Systems Engineer to ensure the ongoing smooth running of the
production computing systems and develop them further to meet business
and production needs. The appointee's core responsibilities would include:
* Ensure systems run reliably and perform as required.
* Work with R&D team to build and install new in-house software.
* Develop tools and systems to increase efficiency.
* Identify upcoming requirements then recommend and implement
solutions.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Essential:
* Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
* A minimum of 4 years UNIX/Linux system administration experience
* You should have a keen interest in computer hardware and
operating systems
* Proven team player with good organisation and communication skills
* Understanding and familiarity with:
* RDBMS (e.g. MySQL)
* NAS/NFS/SMB e.g. Network Appliance
* Software version control systems; svn/RCS/CVS etc.
* Software package management (RPMS)
* Red Hat Linux/Fedora Core
* Familiarity with scripting languages, one or more of Bourne/Csh,
Perl, Python or PHP
* A positive approach and excellent troubleshooting skills with
strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Capacity to manage a busy workload with high productivity
Desired:
* Experience of working with open source development tools such as
gcc, autotools, SCons, make, CVS, SVN, Eclipse, Python and Perl
* Experience of supporting C/C++ developers in a commercial
environment.
