netpbm already does it, and IIRC, PIL does it if I need to do it
in something more advanced than a shell script. So not for me...

But whether anyone has a use for it or not, what's the downside
in doing it anyway? It shouldn't be too much work, and I can 100%
guarantee you that *someone* will want to use it at some point.
