[Gllug] Backing up Linux partitions to DVD for *easy* restore elsewhere..

Hello,

I want to backup a hard drive containing ext3/LVM partitions to
DVD(s). The idea is to give a third-party these DVD(s) so that they
can make an identical copy of the partitions and data on their own
workstations (using identical hardware). I used to be able to do this
with Symantec's Norton Ghost 9/10, but having just bought Ghost 14, I
discover that those ^**$($&!!! at Symantec have changed things around
so that you can only do backups through the Windows application within
Windows and not from a bootable CD/DVD as you used to do to.

I realise I could use syslinuxrescue CD to do this (as it contains
PartImage), but the person doing the restore has got to do a bit of
work to get the restore going. I ideally want a point and click
interface, similar to Ghost, in which I can give instructions to the
third party to do the restore. I've been looking at Acronis'
TrueImage Home and TrueImage Echo Workstation, but their trial
versions don't allow a CD/DVD backup from the boot media which kind of
defeats the object of a trial. Upon asking them about the features of
these products, they want to sell me the $699 Echo Server for Linux
which seems widely over specified for my needs.

Does anybody have a recommendation for TrueImage or any third party
projects which would make it easy to do this?

Regards,

Martyn
