It's only empty once you leave Paddington. Before that, you get the  
delights of the more unreliable and packed corners of the Tube to get  
there. Reading's also outside of the London zonal ticketing system, so  
you get screwed on train fares on top of your Tube ticket to Paddington.

An annual Paddington-Reading season ticket costs £3,492, so one's  
salary needs to increase by £5,820[0] just to break even. Add in the  
extra 90 minutes or so a day travelling, and you really want a further  
15-20% salary hike just to cover the extra drain on your time.

And, as far as I can tell, most Reading employers are there because  
they want to pay *less* than London employers, so agents with a badly- 
paid job in the sticks really should avoid pestering people in London  
as it just wastes everybody's time.

Saying that, this job does actually seem to be paying enough to be  
interesting. That's *very* unusual for a job in Reading.


[0] or £4,476 for basic rate taxpayers. But you won't be basic rate  
after you add all those extra costs and still want to break even.
