Usually of course, it's unmaintainable code that was put together in a
couple of days and has been running the website/rotating logs for a
decade now.

I've got a tiny little site that I ported from using flat-files and
"mSQL" (and that's not a typo for all you youngsters) to DBD over mysql.
I ported it some time around the millenium, and it's largely a bunch of
2KB CGI scripts that were written by someone who'd obviously spent a
weekend learning Perl. In its defence, the client is happy enough that
they've never wanted to pay for a major update.
