I see 2 advantages :
1 . Technical advances which would involve more thin clients while
data centres have the data ofcourse  with added security .
2. A big competition for win* market which will lead to acceptance of
*nix as a platform  . Now H/W vendors cant play the Asus/M$ game .
They just can't say no to a google distro :D Plus google will be tying
up with hardware vendors .

At the same time I am afraid of lot of things :
1.  How free was android ? How free was chrome browser ? Was android
not an open moko killer ? How free will chrome OS be ?
2. How will desktop advertising model be ? will it be a nuisance on
our desktop ?
3. Data privacy !!!
4. Over dependence on google ?
