As somebody else said, wpa_supplicant is a recommended tool for wireless
cards.  It can cope with wpa, wpa2, multiple profiles based on ssid etc.
There are several GUI tools that will do the hard work for you if you
can provide the basic parameters (e.g. wpa2, private key, ssid).  wpagui
is one.
