The only fix for Tiscali I've found is to phone up another ISP and ask
to switch. They randomly decided to start bouncing 95% of my incoming
email last week[1]. They point blank refused to treat it as an urgent
problem, they won't give any status updates, or even ackowledge that
someone is looking at the fault. They finally fixed it this afternoon.
However, after a couple of days without email, I'd already given up on
them and repointed my MX records to my own servers, so actually my mail
has been working fine since the tail end of last week. I should have done
it ages ago.
They really are utterly useless, to the point where I wonder if it's
not a deliberate strategy to thin down their customer base. I know you
should never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained
by incompetence. But the level of observed incompetence is simply so
staggering that I struggle to class it as an adequate explanation.
