[Gllug] Reverse question - what FLOSS s/w is better than secret-source?

Hmm - I suppose we need to distinguish between "reasonably priced" and
"price no object".
I was going to say that we should probably rule out things like
"pgAdmin" on the grounds that you wouldn't use a closed-source app to
manage a BSD database, but there actually *are* a lot of graphical apps
that do that, so let's allow anything.
Here's three to start off.
PostgreSQL
Best "reasonably priced" database. MS-SQL locks you into a Microsoft
stack (nice fit if that's already where you are). Oracle/DB2 will beat
it in certain key environments, but are in the "price no object" bracket
as far as I am concerned.
Wireshark
I remember paying hundreds for network logging/analysing software. I'm
guessing ethereal/wireshark has killed that market.
Live/Portable systems
Any run from usb/cd app/system. At a first glance almost all of those
are open-source. Along with remote access to systems via the internet,
live system-rescue CDs are the greatest support tool since the screwdriver.
