They cut and clean then ends, put them into a clever device with a
microscope to align then ends, then hit the heat button, normally its called
fusing fibre. Of course with multi mode fiber you could just per terminators
on it like LC or SC connectors and put them in a connection block, the light
with leak into the next cable.
