I've been using Virgin (née NTL) since I moved to London in 2003. It's
been almost entirely painless, to the point where I'm not really
bothered that there's no BT line and the Landlord won't allow us to get
one installed. 

Dealing with their phone support can be trying, certainly, but I've had
to call them so rarely it doesn't matter. I've also had the full
bandwidth I'm supposed to (10MB currently, finally going to 20MB next week).
Traffic shaping has yet to affect me, even though I do occasionally
download quite a lot.
