thanks for that;  had not heard of that website nor free compilers before !

I will take a look

The cobol editor program does not have any really fancy file-handling (which is
most likely where free compilers might fall down),  but a fair load of calls
to C subroutines.  So providing a free compiler has the capabiiyt to call C
subroutines it could be do-able !
